Timothy Elsworth is a full-time, independent maritime arbitrator and mediator. He receives regular appointments as sole and panel arbitrator in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations in shipping disputes, including charterparties (including NYPE, Gencon, Asbatankvoy, Shellvoy), demurrage and freight, exclusive shipment contracts, salvage and total loss, safe ports, stevedore damage, ship performance and maintenance, ship management, etc.
Timothy is a Fellow of each of the Chartered, Hong Kong and Singapore Institutes of Arbitrators and is a CEDR Accredited Mediator. He is on the Panel of Arbitrators for the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration and is an Aspiring Full Member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association.
Previously an international commercial and maritime lawyer, his experience includes 25 years working in Asia. As a partner/solicitor in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sydney and Singapore he handled all aspects of "wet" and "dry" shipping cases (court, arbitration and mediation) involving multi-jurisdictional disputes. Being a former mariner, he handled many high profile shipping casualties. He also has extensive experience of non-contentious aspects of maritime and insurance law.
“Highly rated” and a “top tier litigator” in Who’s Who Legal 2009 and 2010, Timothy is also listed as a leading individual in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 2011/2012 and was the 2012 exclusive winner of the ILO Client Choice Award for Shipping, Singapore.
